How To Save Money On Gasoline

Keywords: car wax, car care products, car wax

Every time you turn on the news you hear about the price of oil going up. Threats of embargos, political instability in the Middle East and now Nigeria and in the last year we saw the effect that major hurricanes could have on oil prices due to supplies being disrupted. There isn’t a thing we can do to protect against those things but there are some other steps we can take to lower our fuel bill.

One thing people don’t realize that is easy is to keep your windows up. The friction or drag caused by keeping your windows uses more gas than air conditioning in most cases.
At the same time, use your air conditioner sparingly. The AC compressor drags down your engine and will have a big negative affect on your gas mileage.

Avoid jackrabbit starts and stops; this is one of the biggest culprits of poor fuel economy. Accelerate normally and don’t ride bumpers.

Keep your car tuned up and running properly. A vehicle that is misfiring and not in optimal running condition will burn way more fuel. You also want to keep your tires inflated at the proper pressure, if not this will hurt your fuel economy. Some vehicles today, like my Nissan Titan for example, have inflation sensors that warn you when the air pressure is getting low. Be sure not to over inflate though, this will hurt your gas mileage as well.

Don’t keep your vehicle loaded down with unnecessary items that weigh your vehicle down. Those of us with trucks and vans are particularly guilty of this in many cases. If you aren’t using stuff take it out.

Don’t leave your engine running when you are just sitting still. If you run into a convenience store resist the urge to leave your vehicle running. If you get stuck in traffic and it isn’t moving turn your car off until it starts to move again.

Don’t run the highest priced gas in your vehicle. Most vehicles today are built to use regular unleaded gasoline. Be sure to check your owner’s manual but chances are if you are spending money on the high dollar gas you are just wasting your money.

If you work outside the home and have a fair distance to drive get together with other co-workers and have a car pool so that you can all share the cost and cut down on the wear and tear on your individual vehicles.

If you live close to the destination you want to go to, the corner store for example, walk or bike instead of hopping in the car. It will save gas and help your level of fitness at the same time.
