By looking for your greatest expense each month you will be able to get the most benefit from your rewards credit card. For instance, if you spend the most money on air travel each month then you will want to get an air miles card. Rewards credit cards will all give you a percentage of your purchase in the form of a reward. The difference, though, is what percentage? Some cards will only give you 1% on your purchases and other ones will give you as much as 6% on certain purchases. Most cards, though, will give you a two-tiered system where you get one percentage for things related to the card, and a lower percentage (1 to 3%) for things like groceries, prescriptions, and gas.
Get 0% APR Interest For Your Purchases
Just about every credit card has an interest rate, but why settle for one that is higher than zero percent? Of course, this only refers to the introductory offer, but it can last up to 15 months - if you are careful to look for this feature. This gives you plenty of time to enjoy savings from interest and time to find some real bargains. Of course, the interest rate only applies to balances carried over from one month to the next. This means that if you pay the entire bill each month, and on time, you will not pay any interest anyway for as long as you have the card!
Look For Balance Transfer Option
This great feature allows you to take the balances from your other credit cards and put them onto this new rewards credit card. If you are paying interest on the other card this would be a great way to save some money each month. Generally, you are given the length of the regular introductory offer to have 0% APR interest on balance transfer amounts, but you will want to check on this. Also, look to see if there is any balance transfer fees that apply when you do this. Many cards have no charges for this service.
